About the Seminary

The Patriarch Lubomyr Husar Ukrainian Catholic Seminary – London is an ecclesiastical institution of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London.

It exists to form candidates for priestly ministry in the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, especially for service within Great Britain.

The Seminary is rooted in the Byzantine Christian tradition, faithful to the teaching of the Catholic Church, and attentive to the pastoral needs of Ukrainian Catholic communities.

Its formation is shaped by four essential dimensions: human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral. These are not separate areas, but integrated aspects of one vocation: to become a priest after the heart of Christ.

The Seminary bears the name of Patriarch Lubomyr Husar, whose life and ministry embodied wisdom, humility, and hope.

Patriarch Lubomyr Husar

Patriarch Lubomyr Husar was a foundational figure in the modern history of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. Born in Lviv and having lived much of his life in the diaspora, he returned to Ukraine to lead the Church during a pivotal era of spiritual rebirth and national independence.

Known for his profound wisdom, humility, and gentle spirit, Patriarch Lubomyr became a 'moral authority' for all Ukrainians, transcending religious boundaries. His vision for the seminary focused on the holistic formation of priests who could serve with love, intellect, and deep pastoral care in a globalized world.

His legacy continues to inspire our Seminary's mission to form candidates for priestly ministry who are rooted in Byzantine tradition while being attentive to the contemporary pastoral needs of the community in Great Britain.
