Our Formation Programme

This is an overview of the stages of priestly formation at the Patriarch Lubomyr Husar Ukrainian Catholic Seminary. Our programme ensures that each candidate is prepared for the challenges of ministry through rigorous spiritual and academic development.

The formation programme of the Seminary prepares candidates for priestly ministry in the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church through a structured and integrated path of human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral development.

It is designed not only to provide academic education, but to form the whole person for faithful and effective service in the life of the Church.

Propaedeutic Period

The Propaedeutic Period provides a foundation for seminary life, focusing on prayer, discernment, community living, and human formation. It introduces candidates to the spiritual and personal discipline required for priestly life.

Internal Formation (UGCC)

Alongside academic study, seminarians receive formation in the life and tradition of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, including Byzantine liturgy, chant, Church history, Eastern canon law, homiletics, and pastoral practice.

Our Formation Pathway

Theology Studies

Theological formation develops a deeper understanding of Sacred Scripture, the teaching of the Church, and the theological tradition, preparing candidates for priestly ministry.

Philosophy Studies

Philosophical formation is undertaken in partnership with St Mary’s University, Twickenham. It provides the intellectual foundation necessary for theological study and pastoral ministry.

Pastoral Formation

Pastoral formation is developed through supervised experience in parish and ecclesial settings, enabling seminarians to apply their formation in real pastoral situations.
